Popular YouTuber and sailing enthusiast, Patrick Childress has died from COVID-19 while being treated at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town. On Sunday, June 28 well-known American sailor, best known for his YouTube channel Patrick Childress Sailing succumbed to COVID-19 after complications.

Over the past 13 years, avid followers watched Patrick and his wife Rebecca travel the world aboard their yacht, “The Brick House”.

The couple were visiting South Africa on holiday when lockdown began and they ended up being stuck in the Hout Bay marina. Keeping busy with maintenance on their yacht, the couple killed time while waiting for the lockdown to end.

Unfortunately they both contracted the virus and their peaceful stay turned into a battle for survival. While Rebecca seemed to handle the virus well, 69-year-old Patrick had some difficulty breathing and had to be admitted to Groote Schuur’s intensive care unit shortly after testing positive.

On their website, Rebecca writes, “Now I’m just sitting here – and I can’t believe this world does not have Patrick in it any more. I’m just so disappointed, lost and so lonely for my best friend. I just can’t believe he is gone now. It wasn’t supposed to happen. With so many people supporting him around the world, and the love of my life, how could things go so wrong?”

To keep fans updated with the next steps for the channel and herself Rebecca posted an update on their YouTube channel:
