The Western Cape’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) has responded to a total of 5 288 incidents over the past weekend.
According to a statement, some of the incidents includes 870 non-cardiac pain, 682 weapon assaults, 500 respiratory complaints, 308 obstetric complaints 275 physical assaults, 274 abdominal complaints and 169 accidental domestic injuries.
“There were 209 transport-related incidents reported with one of the incidents being a fatal motor vehicle crash, which occurred 5km from Leeu Gamka, in the direction of Beaufort West on the N1 on Sunday, 13 March,” the statement said.

EMS officials were also stationed at various points along the route of the Cape Town Cycle Tour, where several participants were treated and transported to medical points, as well as various hospitals.
Meanwhile, most patients were transported to the Tygerberg, Worcester and Swartland Hospitals.
