The average price of a hotel room in Cape Town is R65.19 cheaper per evening than it was a year ago – this brings the average cost of a hotel room to R1 436.30 per evening. According to the Hotel Performance Index, released in September 2018 by provincial investment agency Wesgro, the price of a night in a four-star hotel room dropped by 5.2%.
The average five-star hotel room costs R2 468.99 per evening, and this rate has decreased by R134.84 per night over a year’s period.
Although occupancy across hotels in the Western Cape has increased by a marginal 0.3%, the average cost per night of a hotel room in the province has dropped by 2.8%.
Speaking to BusinessInsider, Cape Town Tourism CEO, Enver Duminy, said that Cape Town is now steadily recovering from the drought.
The current impact of the drought on tourists in the city is now minimal, as the city’s dam average is now more than 70%.
According to SA Tourism, the country’s influx of visitors from South America has grown by 10% while 29% more tourists from Argentina are enjoying Cape Town.
The number of travellers visiting from Europe, Australasia, and the Middle East have declined.
