The price of living has been steadily increasing over the years, and motorists will have to tighten their belts once again as provincial government has gazetted its motor vehicle license fees for 2020.

Fees for cars, motorcycles, trailers, trucks and caravans in the Western Cape were outlined in the 2020 gazette, showing an increased of approximately 4.5%. This increase falls in line with inflation.

The revenue gathered from license fees is used predominantly for the maintenance and building of road infrastructure and other things including:

– building, upgrading and maintaining the provincially-owned road network

– assisting municipalities to fund the maintenance of strategic roads

– continuing to reduce maintenance backlogs, which has decreased by 16% in the past seven years
