At the launch, Patekile indicated that all men should take action against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) to protect women and children. He said that there are 120 GBV desks in the Province with each shift having trained personnel who will attend to GBV victims cases.
“It was important that all stakeholders put their shoulders behind the wheel to ensure that GBV crimes were being tackled,” Patekile explained.
He also applauded the three young girls, who were among the speakers, for their bravery in speaking out about issues that affect them.
Meanwhile, the Western Cape’s Department of Community Safety has welcomed the news of the stabilisation of the murder rate, as well as consistent decreases in other categories of crime in the province.
According to Provincial Minister Albert Fritz, the latest statistics is somewhat good news, however, the provincial government should do more to ensure a safe and prosperous province and to roll back the crime rate further.
