In a significant move to bolster support for the province’s most vulnerable residents, Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Jaco Londt, presented the department’s 2025/2026 Adjustment Budget in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament this past week, Cape {town} Etc reports.
The mid-year financial update serves as a strategic reallocation of funds towards priority programmes, ensuring essential resources reach those who need them most.
Londt emphasised the turning tides in this year’s budget, noting, ‘This year’s budget looks significantly different from last year’s. It reflects a department that continues to demonstrate resilience and innovation despite years of navigating a constrained fiscal environment,’
The department is set to benefit from an increase of R34.220 million, bringing its adjusted allocation to an impressive R2,759,830,000.

‘As a department, we have achieved much with very little, and now, entrusted with a little more, we will scale up services to those who need them the most. This would not be possible without our dedicated management team and our hardworking staff, who respond to increasing service demands each day with compassion and commitment,’ Londt remarked as he outlined the budget priorities.
- Social Worker Integrated Management System (SWIMS): An additional R2 million has been allocated, increasing the total investment to R6 million towards the expansion of this essential application.
- Early Adolescent Skills for Emotions (EASE): R2 million will be directed towards this structured programme, which delivers evidence-based emotional regulation support to youths.
- TIME Programme: Another R2 million has been earmarked for this initiative aimed at enhancing coping skills and emotional regulation, particularly in rural areas.
- Strengthening Care for Older Persons: A significant R15 million has been added to the budget for services targeting older persons, complemented by an extra R6 million from reallocated funds, increasing total funding from R254 million to R276 million.
- Independent Living Pilot Programme: R1 million will be allocated for a new service dedicated to supporting children transitioning out of alternative residential care.
This budget adjustment not only reveals the provincial government’s commitment to addressing pressing social issues but also highlights a proactive approach in enhancing service delivery through improved funding mechanisms.
