The Western Cape Department of Health reached another milestone on Tuesday, November 23 after surpassing the 4 million COVID-19 vaccine mark in the province. According to the provincial Department of Health, 4 005 802 COVID-19 jabs were administered to 2 433 085 people.
The latest data from the national Department of Health indicates that 48.89% of the adult population in the Western Cape have been fully vaccinated. News 24 reports that 70% of the people that fall in the 60+ age group have received at least one jab and almost 60% of those aged 50 to 59 have received at least one vaccine dose. Data from the provincial health department also showed that people older than 5o are more at risk of dying of COVID-19.

“A big thank you to everyone involved in our vaccine rollout programme, and of course, to every single person who chose to get vaccinated. If you are 50+ or with comorbidities, please get vaccinated as soon as you can,” Western Cape Premier Alan Winde said.
Meanwhile, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said it’s aware of the increase in COVID-19 infections in the Tshwane region. NICD Acting Executive Director, Prof Adrian Puren, said that they have noted a 7-day moving average of new cases and the percentage testing positive in this region is amongst the 10 – 29 age group, IOL reported.
