Community Safety MEC Albert Fritz has made headlines following his recent suspension with immediate effect after “serious allegations” surfaced which was brought to the attention of Western Cape Premier Alan Winde.
These allegations suggested that Fritz reportedly sexually assaulted young women in his office. On the topic of his suspension, Winde said: “Following my meeting with the complainants, and after receiving legal advice, I felt I had sufficient information to immediately suspend the Minister and request an independent investigation into this matter.”
Since then, Winde has confirmed that Fritz, who previously served as Social Development MEC, is facing allegations of sexual misconduct.
According to EWN, the Western Cape Premier made the announcement on Sunday and said that the alleged victims gave him permission to divulge the complaints made against Fritz.
Winde expressed admiration for those who came forward to speak out while the Western Cape Government will support the independent investigation, eNCA adds.
The option of Winde laying criminal charges against Fritz is a possibility based on the outcome of the investigation. He reiterated that he will not be releasing the names of those affected or the type of sexual misconduct to protect the parties involved.
