The ANC in the Western Cape has asked the Public Protector to investigate a R51 000 reimbursement Premier Alan Winde received for flights to New York during Climate Week in 2024, reports Cape {town} Etc.
According to The Citizen the payment came from the Under2 Coalition, an international network of regions working on net zero targets by 2050.

During a Standing Committee meeting on Friday, provincial ANC leader Khalid Sayed said Winde’s department failed to declare the reimbursement in the adjusted estimates or in the compulsory gifts and donations register (News24).
He said this omission raised concerns about accountability in the premier’s office.
‘Transparency is not optional in public administration. When departments withhold information, even unintentionally, it undermines public trust,’ said governance analyst Dr Lwando Mkhize, who reviewed the committee discussion.
Sayed said the ANC has also approached the Registrar of Members’ Interests. He delivered the complaint in person at the Public Protector’s Western Cape office on Wednesday.
He told media outside the office that the issue is not the donation itself. Instead, the ANC is questioning the processes followed.
‘The rules are clear. Members must disclose any benefit received. When that does not happen, it becomes a governance concern,’ said Sayed.
