Cape Town enforcement teams kept up pressure across the City last week, with officers making arrests, issuing notices and uncovering illegal goods during routine patrols, Cape {town} Etc reports.
According to the City, on Sunday, 7 June, Marine Unit officers on patrol in Hout Bay and Wynberg spotted people drinking in a parking area near Victoria Hospital, which led to a search of a white Mitsubishi.

Officers searched and discovered 1 848 West Coast rock lobster tails alongside R17 600 in cash. A 69-year-old Hout Bay resident was arrested and detained at Wynberg SAPS.
Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, said the situation reflected wider enforcement challenges in the city. ‘This incident highlights the audacity of so many lawbreakers in our city who remain convinced that they will not be caught.’
He added, ‘How else does one explain openly breaking the law by consuming alcohol in public, knowing that you are in possession of contraband?’
Smith also praised officers for the broader week of operations, stating, ‘This was a very good bust which our Law Enforcement officers can be incredibly proud of, but so too the incident in Diep River where Metro Police officers on routine patrol recovered several firearms.’ He called for stronger legal outcomes.
He further emphasised enforcement concerns, stating, ‘The SAPS and NPA need to break this cycle of suspects arrested for illegal firearms walking free.’
City enforcement figures show 406 arrests made across agencies during the week. Metro Police recorded 166 arrests and 5 845 notices, while Traffic Services logged 41 arrests, including 34 for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Public Emergency Communication Centre received 1 439 calls for assistance over the weekend, including assault, domestic violence, and road incident reports.
