Mere days after the brutal murder of Stellenbosch farmer Stefan Smit, another farm in the same district has been hit by assailants. The farm, located in Klapmuts, was attacked by armed robbers in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

“Four armed suspects gained access to the house, threatened the occupants and fled with a licensed firearm,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut. “They are yet to be arrested.”

There are no further details on the incident available as of yet.

Police are still investigating the murder of Smit, who was killed last Sunday evening in his home while with his friends and family. Smit was the owner of Louisenhof, a popular Stellenbosch wine estate, and many have questioned whether his death has any connection to the farm recently selling a portion of its land to the Stellenbosch Municipality. The specific portion of land sold was illegally occupied by backyarders, who renamed it “Azania” last year.

Smit was murdered at 6.50pm on Sunday evening, while the Klapmuts robbery took place at approximately 6.30am on Tuesday.
