Fans of the hit Marvel film Black Panther have “something really special” to look forward to in 2022.
While the release of the much-anticipated film was confirmed with Marvel’s Phase 4 announcement, the inclusion of one of the Black Panther’s most notable characters, Mbaku, played by Winston Duke, had not officially been confirmed- until now.
The star confirmed to Collider that he would be returning as the iconic warrior in the sequel but stated that the process has been an emotional one. Chadwick Boseman, who played the superhero, unexpectedly passed away from colon cancer in August 2020, leaving the future of the franchise in disarray.
“It was very emotional to read the script. It was emotional to pack to go back to set. But we’re all a bit of a family now and we grieve together, and we’re making something really special,” said Duke.
The sequel is currently being filmed in Atlanta, but Duke gave no hint as to what the plot of the anticipated film was about. However, with writer-director Ryan Coogler and Kevin Feige at the helm, Black Panther 2 is sure to be a bittersweet and emotional viewing.
