One of the longest and most respected cultural festivals WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance) is coming to Cape Town this week. It is one of the longest and most respected cultural festivals in the world and celebrates 40 years of existence in 2022.

Founded by Peter Gabriel, the WOMAD experience has been successfully hosted in over 30 countries and to an audience of millions.
To celebrate this milestone and to establish this iconic brand in South Africa, a series of unique and intimate boutique showcase events will be presented around the country which will be known as the WOMAD South African Safari 2022.
WOMAD brings together artists from all over the globe for a celebration of the performing arts.

For the first time in the event’s history, South Africans will get to experience the cultural and music festival with the annual WOMAD South Africa Safari which is set to be hosted in two provinces this October.
“Cape Town is a city with unrivalled culture and diversity, boasting a heady mix of old and new. Nothing speaks to this more than the city’s creative, arts and entertainment scene. Adding an event of the stature of WOMAD to our annual calendar can only enhance the already flourishing performance art scene in our beautiful city,” said Cape Town Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis.
Lewis continued by stating that this is also the perfect platform for local artists to showcase their talent and exchange cultural experiences with artists from across the globe.
“I would like to encourage Capetonians to head to the V&A Waterfront to enjoy this celebration of art, music and dance,” he added.
Head down to the V&A Waterfront to check out the Cape Town leg of the WOMAD South Africa Safari which will take place on Saturday, 1 October and Sunday, 2 October 2022 with free live performances at multiple venues for free – an opportunity not to be missed!
Performances will take place at the following venues:
- Nobel Square: 12pm – 16.30pm
- V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre: 1pm – 8pm
- Quay 4: 6pm – 10pm
- Ferryman’s Tavern: 6pm – 10pm

In addition, as part of the event’s other activities, skills transfer workshops will be held by the international artists at:
- District Six Theatre
- Langa’s Bridge Music Academy
- Ocean View Music Academy
- Mitchells Plain Community Centre
