The incident was recorded on video, showing the woman hitting the 56-year-old man on his head and body while he was lying on the ground.
The victim, who has been paralysed on one side of his body since a 2006 car accident, was initially hesitant to report the abuse.
According to his niece, Zizipho Nkunzana, the video revealed a disturbing side of their relationship.

‘When we saw the video, we were shocked. It’s bad,’ Nkunzana stated.
She also learned from the community that the woman frequently abused her uncle, particularly when intoxicated.
Zodwa ‘Zoey’ Booi from Operation Dudula, an anti-immigration group, intervened after being alerted to the video by a family member.
Booi recounted their interaction with the suspect: ‘She admitted that she sometimes hits him when she’s drunk but doesn’t know why.’
Booi also highlighted the victim’s previous attempts to file a report, which were thwarted by the requirement for a doctor’s report.
‘This is why so many men suffer in silence,’ Booi remarked.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that a case of common assault and domestic violence was opened following the incident. The police found the home crowded with community members trying to intervene.
Despite the victim’s reluctance to press charges, the authorities proceeded with the case and arrested the woman.
At her court appearance, the woman claimed that it was her turn to retaliate after years of suffering abuse. The case has been postponed to 23 October, with the woman released on bail and instructed to avoid the home. The victim is now staying with his brother.
