A woman who was taking a leisurely hike through the Spaanschemat side of the popular Tokai Forest was robbed by two men on Wednesday.

According to South African Police Services (SAPS) spokesperson  Noloyiso Rwexana, a case of a robbery with a weapon other than a firearm is now open for investigation.

“The one suspect demanded that she hand over her cellphone, to which she responded that she did not have. They then asked for all her possessions,” Rwexana says. “The one suspect was in possession of a knife. She handed over her personal belongings such as a watch, rings, necklace, and camera.”

One of the suspects was wearing a grey hoodie and white cap, while the other wore a maroon striped top. It was reported that both of them fled the scene via Soetvlei Avenue.

Police are yet to make an arrest in a separate incident that occurred on Tuesday, where a cyclist was robbed and stabbed on Table Mountain.

The 60-year-old cyclist was robbed of his bike and sustained a stab wound to his leg while cycling above Rugby Road in Oranjezicht.

Mountain bikers who frequent the Table Mountain area reportedly scoured known crime hotspots to prevent another such incident, and Table Mountain Watch spokesperson Andre Van Schalkwyk said that five similar incidents have been reported since January 2019.
