Woodstock police have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking, arresting three suspects in a targeted operation over the weekend.
Acting on intelligence, officers raided two separate premises in Wright Street on Saturday, 5 July 2025, uncovering significant quantities of heroin, tik, and mandrax, as reported by the South African Poilce Service.
The arrests form part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks plaguing vulnerable communities in the area.
Authorities have vowed to sustain pressure on dealers, emphasizing the link between substance abuse and violent crime.
At the first location, officers detained a 69-year-old man after discovering 45 units of heroin and mandrax tablets hidden inside the property. The suspect, who faces charges of drug possession, was taken into custody without incident.
A short distance away, police raided another home, arresting a 40-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man. The search yielded:
-
245 sachets of tik
-
13 units of Unga
-
7.5 mandrax tablets
The suspects were unable to produce legal authorization for the narcotics, leading to their immediate detention.
Once formally charged, the trio is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court. The confiscated drugs, with an estimated street value running into thousands of rand, will be processed as evidence.
The weekend’s raids underscore SAPS’s commitment to eradicating drug-related crime in Woodstock.
