According to WSAR, the 33-year-old hiker was part of a friend group hiking between the King’s Blockhouse and Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.
During the course of the hike, she injured her leg after suddenly slipping and falling from the trail and was unable to proceed.
Her friends reached out to WSAR using the emergency contact number upon realising the situation at hand. The team, together with TMNP rangers, immediately jumped into action.
‘Rescuers placed her into a stretcher and carried her down the trail to a waiting vehicle,’ reported the search and rescue organisation. ‘She was driven down to the Newlands Forrest parking before being transferred to an ambulance and driven to hospital.’
The rescue operation concluded at 3:25pm.
‘With clear conditions expected over the next few days, we urge everyone planning to venture outdoors to take extra care when crossing wet surfaces, including rocks, tree roots and wooden boardwalks as these will likely still be slippery,’ said WSAR.
