The World Rugby’s WXV tournament will kick off in Cape Town this weekend with the Springbok Women poised to shine against five other nations, Cape {town} Etc reports.

The tournament will start on Friday, 27 September. The first game will be a face-off between the Springboks and Japan at DHL Stadium at 4pm.

The City of Cape Town confirmed that Athlone Stadium will also play host to some matches.
JP Smith, the City’s Mayco member for safety and security, said 2024 is the second year running for Cape Town to host the world rugby tournament. ‘We are opening up two of Cape Town’s iconic stadiums to be the battleground for these titans of global women’s rugby,’ he noted in a statement.
‘We are extremely proud to be involved with a tournament that is aimed at growing the status of the women’s game, while also providing these skilled athletes with a platform to showcase their talent.’
‘I would like to urge our residents and visitors to show support to the teams by purchasing a ticket for as little as R35.’
Nine matches will be played between 27 September and 12 October 2024.
