Local authorities are investigating the death of a young man that took place on Tuesday afternoon. The young man, believed to be in his 20s tragically passed away while working on a ship docked at the Cape Town harbour.

ER24 Paramedics and Community medics arrived at the scene to treat the patient at 1.24pm.

Unfortunately, after critical assessment, the paramedics found that the man had sustained a severe head injury and showed no signs of life.

According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, the man passed away at the scene.

“Unfortunately, nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead,” he said. 

Meiring explained the probable cause for the man’s death.

“It is understood that a metal object had fallen from a height, striking the man on the head,” he said.

South African Police Service, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, indicated further investigations are underway.

“Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation,” Rwexana said.
