In a powerful display of unity and shared purpose, the Stepping Stones Children Centre recently hosted an uplifting event celebrating the impact of youth-led initiatives and corporate-community partnerships.
The gathering highlighted the success of Heart FM’s 16 Days for Youth Project and JiVE’s My JiVE, My Hood campaign, two programmes proving that collaboration can create lasting, positive change.
At the heart of the event was Stepping Stones Children Centre, a nonprofit with a 49-year legacy of providing early childhood education to vulnerable children. Rochelle Fleshman, Operations Manager, emphasized their commitment to inclusivity: ‘Inclusivity is at our core, no child is ever left behind.’
The centre, which operates on a sliding-scale fee system, ensures accessibility for low-income families while maintaining high-quality education standards.

Empowering youth through corporate partnerships
A key moment came when Niyaaz Hendricks, Brand Marketing and Trade Execution Manager at JiVE, spoke about the brand’s dedication to uplifting Western Cape communities. JiVE has been a steadfast supporter of local initiatives, including the SK Walmers Rugby Club, which recently celebrated Hasheem Peads’ selection to the Springbok squad after his Baby Boks World Cup victory.
The My JiVE, My Hood campaign engaged the public in a unique two-phase competition. Participants pitched bold ideas to improve their neighborhoods, with six finalists selected as ‘JiVE Mayors.’ Among them was Khanyisa Zali, who secured R100,000 for Stepping Stones, despite having no prior connection to the organization. Five runners-up, including Langebaan Animal Centre and Butterfly House, each received R10,000 for their community projects.
Heart FM played a crucial role in amplifying these efforts through its 16 Days for Youth Project, a campaign dedicated to youth empowerment. Adding to the momentum, the JiVE Funny Golf Day raised an impressive R100,000 for next year’s initiative.
Niyaaz Hendricks captured the spirit of the day: ‘JiVE’s commitment to empowering communities through meaningful partnerships is unwavering.’
Meanwhile, Heart FM presenter Lunga Singama praised JiVE for a decade of collaboration, stressing the importance of sustained support for youth-driven change.
A glimpse into the future
Guests were treated to a tour of Stepping Stones, witnessing firsthand the facility’s upgrades and nurturing environment. The event served as a reminder of what’s possible when brands and communities unite, a future where youth leadership and corporate support drive real, sustainable progress.

The event was more than just a celebration, it was a testament to the transformative power of partnership. By combining corporate resources with grassroots energy, initiatives like My JiVE, My Hood and 16 Days for Youth prove that meaningful change is within reach.
As these programmes continue to grow, they set a powerful example for how businesses and communities can work together to uplift the next generation.
