On Tuesday, 24 September, Zeitz MOCAA will celebrate 100 years of the Grain Silo and 7 years of Africa’s largest museum dedicated to contemporary art from the continent and its diaspora, Cape {town} Etc reports.

This Heritage Day, a curated public programme will bring history, art and architecture together, offering local audiences a chance to reconnect with the museum as an accessible, social and culturally relevant site within the Silo District.

The Grain Silo was originally built in 1924 and played a key role in Cape Town’s global trade network. However, it fell into disuse and became dormant. A revamp in 2017 gave it new life thanks to architect Thomas Heatherwick and became Zeitz MOCAA.
Entry will be free for everyone, including the silo concert, the museum, tours, workshops, live music and more.
The celebrations will include performances by the Thanda Choir, DJ performances and concerts with Mandisi Dyantyis, as well as creative workshops.
