The beach was closed to the public on Thursday, 22 December due to an electrical failure at the sewer pump station as a result of continuous loadshedding.
To mitigate the effects of loadshedding, the City has installed an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system at the Bakoven pump station.
The National Water Quality Guidelines’ minimum standard for recreational activities is met by the water quality at Bakoven Beach, according to the results of a water sample taken on Wednesday, 28 December by the City’s Environmental Health Service.
As a result, the health warning signs were taken down and Bakoven Beach was reopened.
The City conveyed appreciation for the public’s cooperation during this time.
