On 30 January 2026 a CCTV clip showing three kittens dumped from a white bakkie on a quiet Goodwood road prompted a probe by the Cape of Good Hope SPCA and local witnesses, reports Cape {town} Etc.
The footage shows a passenger removing small kittens from the load bed and dropping them onto the tar. One kitten was struck and died at the scene.
Within hours inspectors traced the vehicle registration, took sworn statements and secured the deceased kitten for postmortem examination.
Evidence from CCTV, veterinary reports and witness affidavits formed a complete criminal docket. A vigilant neighbour’s photograph of the vehicle at a nearby house led to identification of the driver.
On 13 February the suspect met an SPCA inspector at Goodwood SAPS and was arrested on charges under the Animals Protection Act.
An SPCA statement underlined investigative work and public support, saying: ‘Every evidentiary requirement was met’ and ‘This wouldn’t be possible without the public.’

The two surviving kittens were placed in SPCA care and have since been adopted by the Effendi family, where they now thrive. Members of the public with information about the second suspect are asked to contact the SPCA.
