A fire broke out in the “D-section” of Masiphumelele Informal Settlement in the early hours of Monday 31 October, destroying close to 100 shacks and leaving many homeless.
As a result of the fire, hundreds of animals have been injured or displaced. The TEARS Mobile Clinic has been on the ground since the fire broke out and its veterinary hospital has been on standby to contact suppliers to boost stocks for burn treatments.
With the number of animals affected by this destructive blaze, TEARS is in need of the public’s help through donations.
Here are two ways to assist with relief efforts:
1. Donate to help with veterinary treatments
- Donate here: www.tears.org.za/donate | please choose the option for Fire Disaster Relief
This contribution will also:
- Provide shelter, rehabilitation and care for up to 200 animals at the TEARS Shelter
- Fund an outreach solution that sterilises and vaccinates companion animals in vulnerable communities
- Rescue animals in distress from all over Cape Town’s South Peninsula and give them a second chance.
2. Make donations of pet food
With hundreds of animals and owners displaced, TEARS will need pet food to distribute along with creating feeding and watering stations for injured pets that are in hiding.
Please visit the following page to purchase pet food that TEARS can repackage and distribute:
