TEARS Animal Rescue executed an animal sterilisation campaign called Stop the Cycle. Save Lives, in collaboration with Animal Welfare South Africa (AWS) and The Animal Hospital. (TAH). This initiative aimed to sterilise 350 dogs and cats for World Spay Day, with TEARS stating that ‘it was a major success’.
Mandy Store, TEARS operations manager, states that, ‘This is a fantastic achievement as each sterilisation doesn’t just help one animal, it prevents generations of suffering, and it keeps an uncountable number of animals out of over-populated shelters’.
TEARS performed 163 spays at the TEARS Animal Rescue clinic over the three-day campaign, spaying a total of 523 animals across all their collaborators. Spaying pets is considered a highly beneficial choice for pet owners, offering significant health and behavioural benefits, including:
- Preventing uterine infections
- Preventing cancers of the reproductive system
- Eliminating the risk of unwanted litters
- Reducing heat-related behaviours
- Increase a pet’s lifespan.
TEARS, a pro-life, non-profit organisation, works to rescue, treat, rehabilitate and rehome lost, abandoned, and abused pets. As part of the World Spay Day campaign, the organisation and its partners collected pets from consenting families in lower-resourced communities.
Store said that the campaign ‘ran very smoothly and was excellently organised.’
The Operations Manager went on to express gratitude to TEARS donors, given the amount of planning and work to execute such a campaign. ‘It was a fantastic team effort. Thanks to everyone who got involved.‘
The TEARS organisation remains the only facility in the far South area of the Cape Peninsula open for business seven days a week, with a mobile clinic service available from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
