Situated within the serene Jonkershoek Valley, standing guard to the majestic mountains, lay the Grande Dame of Stellenbosch – Lanzerac.
Boasting a venerable history that has been carefully preserved and nurtured throughout the ages, Lanzerac has cultivated a reputation for the excellent quality of its exquisite wines.
Deeply rooted in its past, Lanzerac continuously honours the time-tested winemaking methodology passed through generations, ensuring that each bottle of their fine wine is an embodiment of the rich legacy. Lanzerac has become the steward of many renowned wines, such as the robust cabernet sauvignon and the versatile reserve, both proudly part of the Jonkershoek Range.
While Lanzerac may be renowned as the birthplace of the first commercial pinotage, this legendary grape varietal called cabernet sauvignon also has a home right here at Lanzerac.

Legend has it that the origin of cabernet sauvignon is akin to a miracle: a sauvignon blanc vineyard, known for producing white grapes, inexplicably begins yielding red ones. While reality might be less enchanting, cabernet sauvignon undeniably earns its title as the ‘King of Grapes’.
Lanzerac’s Jonkerhoek Cabernet Sauvignon showcases the exceptional versatility of the grape. On the nose, this full-bodied red wine opens with earthy, spicy aromas, leading into a rich burst of blackcurrants and ripe raspberries. The palate is a fruit-forward, balanced by softer tannins and a lingering aftertaste.
Subtle notes of dark chocolate, a touch of coffee, and hints of oak add a depth and complexity to the experience.
Wine blending has a history that spans millennia, originating from times when mixed vineyards served as a safeguard against the unpredictability of Mother Nature, prioritising a reliable harvest over subtle flavour differences. This practice of blending wines was traditionally driven by the need for consistency and reliability.

In the 1800s, winemaking began shifting its focus toward flavour-driven blending. Inspired by this evolution, Lanzerac’s Jonkershoek Reserve was created – a blend unrestricted by regional conventions, where the only measure of success is a symphony of flavours.
This masterful composition unites cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot, and shiraz, each varietal lending its unique character to the newest addition in Lanzerac’s cherished Jonkershoek range.
This cabernet-led blend entices with vibrant layers of black and red berries, complemented by warm spice and a whisper of dark chocolate. Its distinctive profile sets it apart, making it an irresistible choice for those who appreciate a bold yet refined red blend.
Sourced from the Jonkershoek Valley, these wines embody the seamless balance between tradition and innovation, showcasing expert craftsmanship and an unwavering dedication to excellence.

Nothing quite compares with the firsthand experience of visiting Lanzerac.
The delectable aroma of the vineyards, the vibrant and passion amid team members in this time of harvest season, the proud heritage of Manor House, and, most importantly, the opportunity to taste the delectable cabernet sauvignon and diverse reserve are experiences that every wine connoisseur should not miss.
