Grown from humble beginnings into one of the Western Cape’s most beloved tourism attractions, Redberry Farm draws both national and international visitors while remaining a favourite gathering place for locals. Nestled at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains just outside George, the farm has become an iconic destination for berry-lovers, fun-seeking families, foodies and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
This family-owned business began with a modest vision. When Redberry Farm was established in 2000, it consisted of a single strawberry field and a small farm stall that opened only a few days a week.
Over the past quarter-century, it has blossomed into a vibrant entertainment destination and flourishing agricultural enterprise. Today, visitors can explore artisan eateries, browse a curated selection of strawberry-inspired products, and enjoy the freshest berries year-round.
As the farm grew, so did its attractions. In 2008, Redberry Farm opened a 600-metre mini train track – complete with a tunnel – offering a scenic ride on the charming Redberry Express. Five years later, in 2013, the farm made history by unveiling the largest permanent hedge maze in the Southern Hemisphere.
With more than ten kilometres of pathways, it has become one of the Garden Route’s most iconic adventure experiences. These anchor attractions were soon joined by a range of fun activities for all ages, including electric and pedal go-carts, bumper boats, bubble balls, pony rides, outdoor play parks, and the ever-popular pick-your-own strawberry fields.
A more recent highlight, and now a much-photographed landmark on the Garden Route, is the World’s Largest Strawberry – a must-see for anyone visiting the region.
Redberry Farm’s growth is not limited to tourism. Over the years, it has expanded into a major commercial strawberry operation, exporting premium berries to markets across the Middle East and Europe. In 2018, the farm diversified further by planting golden kiwis and kiwi berries, ensuring year-round harvests and strengthening its position as a sustainable agricultural operation.
But beyond the attractions and agricultural achievements, Redberry Farm is a place founded on story, legacy and a deep sense of family. The land on which the farm stands has a rich and layered history.

The property was originally purchased from a dairy farmer by founders Dave Cruse and Mark Miller in 2000. As the business grew, an old mushroom pack house was acquired and transformed into the farm’s processing and packing facility, from which strawberries are now distributed across South Africa and abroad.
The on-site accommodation cottage adds another meaningful connection to the past. More than 120 years old, the cottage was built by the family of renowned South African writer C.J. Langenhoven. Although the building has been modernised and extended, the original thick walls and fisherman’s cottage architecture remain intact.
Several Langenhoven family graves have also been preserved on the property, honouring the heritage of the land.
In the early years, the property consisted largely of kikuyu pastures. Over time, these were transformed through extensive landscaping into the beautifully manicured lawns and gardens that now welcome guests from around the world. As the tea garden and visitor areas were developed, the strawberry fields expanded and additional fruit – including raspberries and blueberries on trial – were introduced to diversify the farm’s offerings.
Today, Redberry Farm offers a rich selection of eateries and experiences. Guests can savour Framboos’ handcrafted ice cream, indulge in The Noshery’s wood-fired pizzas, enjoy a Boplaas whisky or wine tasting, or settle into Bounty Eatery for gourmet farm-style meals with a modern twist. The Berry Boutique Lifestyle store showcases locally sourced products, making it the perfect place to find a meaningful keepsake or holiday gift.
For travellers wishing to slow down and soak in the beauty of the surroundings, the historic on-site cottage provides a peaceful farm-stay experience. It’s an ideal base for families who want to unwind, explore the farm at their leisure, and fully enjoy the wide range of attractions on offer.
As Redberry Farm celebrates 25 years of growth, adventure and community, it extends a heartfelt thank you to every visitor, customer and supporter who has been part of its journey. Here’s to the next chapter of the Redberry Farm story – rooted in family, shaped by passion, and made to be shared.
