Untamed. Untouched. Unforgettable. That is Sanbona Wildlife Reserve – the Western-Cape’s premier wildlife destination and a sanctuary for indigenous flora and fauna. Set amongst the open plains of the Klein Karoo only three hours’ out of Cape Town, Sanbona offers an exhilarating safari wilderness experience.

It is however the vastness of the landscape and the alluring isolation amid the raw beauty and boundless plains, which really sets it apart.

Sanbona re-opened recently with an exclusive South African Residents special offer at Gondwana Family Lodge. Offering a family-safari in style, Gondwana Family Lodge has 12 suites where children of all ages are welcome. The spacious thatched lodge overlooks the dam and is also ideal for groups of friends and families travelling together. Inter-leading rooms are available, and all suites come with a comfortable sleeper couch to accommodate a child.

Facilities include a kids’ TV lounge, indoor and outdoor play areas and a child-friendly swimming pool. The Sanbona Kids on Safari programme at Gondwana offers interesting educational and thrilling recreational wildlife experiences for the young ones. Welcome Packs include the Sanbona Activity Book filled with educational and interactive activities to teach children in a fun way about the wildlife in the reserve.

Children four years and older are welcome on game drives with their parents, while the Interpretive trail takes children of all ages through the gardens to learn about important plants and animals on the reserve.

For the more adventurous, a special rate is also available for weekend walking safaris at Sanbona’s Explorer Camp. This private camp only operates during the summer months and accommodates a group of up to six adults only. Walking safaris take place over weekends from the tented camp that is set up along a riverbed, with all meals prepared on an open fire.

Recognised as one of South Africa’s largest privately-owned reserves, Sanbona stretches across 58 000 hectares, to offer an authentic safari experience in a malaria-free area. Under the stewardship of non-profit conservation organisation the Swiss Caleo Foundation, Sanbona is a pioneer of conservation, reserve development and eco-tourism.

Sustainability and responsible utilisation are the cornerstones of all lodge operations. Within the expansive reserve adventure activities includes twice daily game drives and wilderness walks, photographic safaris, stargazing and guided rock art walks to offer a superb safari getaway within easy reach of Cape Town.

SA Residents Rates from R4000 per person sharing per night, including all meals, twice daily activities and house beverages. Minimum stay 2 nights. Valid for the next year, until  September 30, 2021.
