Just like the previous match at Ellis Park last weekend, the world champions fought back to ‘put one hand on the Rugby Championship trophy’, as reported by News24.
Bok captain Siya Kolisi scored the game’s opening try early on in the second half and that proved to be the driving force for another comeback win.
The Boks have now defeated the All Blacks four times in a row, the first time they’ve achieved this since 1949.
Additionally, this is the first time since 2009 that the Springboks have won the Freedom Cup.
The Springboks made several mistakes, which included 26 missed tackles.
Jasper Wiese also received a yellow card in the 15th minute for giving away a cynical penalty in his own 22m area.
Because of this mishap, New Zealand flyhalf Damian McKenzie was able to kick a penalty to open the scoring in the 15th minute (3-0).
Later on, All Blacks winger Sevu Reece received a yellow card in the 17th minute for ‘making air contact’ with Willie le Roux, who had fielded a high ball.
This did not deter the New Zealand team, as in the 29th minute, another penalty kick from McKenzie placed the All Blacks further in the lead (6-0).
The Boks finally placed points on the board in the 32nd minute, when flyhalf Handre Pollard landed a 40m penalty.
Before half-time, the All Blacks launched several attacks near the Boks’ tryline, where they were rewarded with a penalty in front, which McKenzie featured again.
The score was 9-3 at half-time, with New Zealand in the lead.
The Boks came all guns blazing in the second half, where they were ‘rewarded for their dominance’ when Kolisi scored a try in the 49th minute.
Pollard converted to put South Africa ahead for the first time during the match (10-9).
A 54th-minute penalty by replacement flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu put the Boks further ahead by 13-9.
McKenzie slotted another penalty, this time in the 59th minute to bring the All Blacks ahead (13-12).
Bok fullback Le Roux then suffered a yellow card in the 63rd minute, for a deliberate knockdown.
McKenzie attempted yet another penalty, this time long-range, that would have ‘put the visitors back in front’.
A few minutes on, the Boks won a penalty on halfway, but Feinberg-Mngomezulu missed his penalty attempt to the left.
New Zealand kept on increasing pressure and should have gone ahead but McKenzie missed with a ‘relatively easy penalty attempt’.
Subsequently, Cheslin Kolbe was taken out without the ball by All Blacks prop Tyrel Lomax, who was ‘also yellow carded’ for his efforts.
The Boks decided against taking the three points and they were rewarded by decision when replacement hooker Malcolm Marx scored a second try in the corner after breaking away from a maul.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu missed the conversion, which left the scores at 18-12 with five minutes left on the clock.
The All Blacks pushed on in the final moments of the game but never looked like scoring a late try.
