The popular apparel and shoe brand Vans has partners with the Van Gogh museum to create once off unique pieces that represent the creativity of a renowned artist and will be available in local stores on 3 August.

The Van Gogh museum will be dedicating portion of the sale profits to the preservation of Vincent Van Gogh’s legals and collection of art.

Vincent Van Gogh was born in the quaint town of Zundart, Netherlands in 1853 and became an artists at the age of 27 years. He is arguably one of the most famous post-impressionist painters in Western art history.

Van Gogh’s work is characterized for the color, vibrancy and emotions that are evoked when gazing at it. Personal experiences are reflected in his pieces and viewers are able to relate to it.

Tragically, Van Gogh committed suicide in 1890 after cutting his left ear in 1888 as he suffered from an illness.  Van Gogh is a relic in art world and a revered painter during the 1800s.

The Collection 

Vans worked closely with the Van Gogh museum to select four main pieces that communicate the creative direction of Van’s design and personal pieces by Van Gogh.

The pieces that have been celebrated are the Skull, Almond Cherry Blossom and Van Gogh’s self portrait.  Vans will showcase the artwork in a new way and carry on the artistic history of Van Gogh.

The Almond Cherry Blossoms and Sunflower piece indicate Van Gogh’s love for nature which stemmed from the park walks he would take at a young age.The artist’s family would often engage in outdoor leisure activity and this created an admiration and love for nature in Van Gogh.

The series of skeletons featured in the artist’s work are reflected in the classic slip-on shoe along side a long sleeve t-shirt and hoodie.

Managing Director of the Van Gogh Museum Adriaan Dönszelmann said: “By uniting Van Gogh’s iconic artworks with iconic Vans styles, our partnership brings Vincent’s art “Off The Wall” and into the world to a new audience outside the museum.”

The V & A Waterfront and Canal Walk Vans store will be releasing the collection at 9am on 3 August and pieces are limited. The stores will have a high top shoe embellished with the Almond Cherry blossoms along with a silk jacket to match.
