Energy Mayco Member Alderman Xanthea Limberg said the site will work alongside a planned 8MW battery storage pilot and will help the City meet net zero goals for municipal buildings by 2030.
‘The renewable-energy certificates generated from this solar project will meaningfully offset carbon emissions associated with the city’s operations,’ she said (Engineering News).
Lesedi, the project delivery partner, described strong on-site momentum and growing local skills development. ‘This plant represents our commitment to a clean, sustainable energy future,’ said Lesedi’s Renewables Managing Executive Juston Sikaundi.
Residents in Atlantis can expect more local employment opportunities during finishing works and the first feed of electricity to the grid by the end of next year, signalling a practical step toward a more resilient, lower-cost energy mix for Cape Town.
