As artificial intelligence continues to reshape how people work, create and make decisions, a new learning initiative is setting out to move the conversation beyond hype and into practical application.
The AI Masterclass Summit makes its way to Johannesburg and Cape Town this March, bringing a two-day, hands-on learning experience focused on helping professionals and organisations turn artificial intelligence into a practical workplace tool, Cape {town}Etc reports.
Rather than focusing on abstract trends, the Summit positions itself as a practical intervention at a moment when many feel pressured to respond to AI, but remain unsure where to begin.
The programme is built around translating complex technology into usable tools, strategic thinking and workflows that can be applied immediately.
Hosted by Future School AI, which is an education organisation with more than 15 years’ experience in higher education and professional training, the Summit prioritises depth over scale.
Attendance in each city is capped at 100 participants, creating an immersive, laptop-open learning environment that encourages active engagement with experts, peers and live AI systems.
‘Right now, too many people feel they’re falling behind or they’re overwhelmed and stuck,’ says Trenton Birch, one of the founders of Future School AI and a recognised progressive leader in education.
‘This Summit is about cutting through confusion and helping people understand how AI actually works so they can integrate it into their work and their personal lives in ways that genuinely add value.’

The AI Masterclass Summit is structured around six intensive masterclasses, each designed to build practical capability while addressing longer-term shifts in the workplace.
Sessions cover a broad spectrum, from AI Fundamentals & Strategic Thinking, which unpacks what AI is, and what it is not, to AI Tools, Process Flow & Integration, where participants design workflows that embed AI into daily operations.
Other masterclasses explore productivity and business growth, creative and human-centred AI, autonomous systems and humanoids, and strategies for future-proofing careers and organisations.
Learning is led by African AI practitioners, with a strong emphasis on real tools, real use cases and real process flows, rather than theory alone. The programme also places developing economies at the centre of the discussion.
Alex Pryor, Managing Director of Future School AI, says the Summit deliberately grounds AI conversations in an African context.
‘The AI Masterclass Summit is grounded in an African context, placing developing economies at the centre of the conversation. Sessions explore how AI can drive productivity, inclusion, innovation and long-term economic growth across the continent, while industry panels bring together leaders working at the intersection of technology, education, business strategy and policy.’
Among the keynote speakers is Dennis Tapfuma, a Digital and AI Transformation leader with nearly two decades of experience delivering global digital transformation programmes.
Born in Zimbabwe and currently working in London, Tapfuma brings both continental and international perspectives.
‘In 2026, we can expect to see a shift from AI experimentation to operational reality,’ he highlighted.
‘Tangible impact comes from well-built AI foundations and a strategic approach that enables you to deploy AI tools effectively in your work, and organisation.’
Beyond formal sessions, the Summit is designed as a collaborative experience. Facilitated discussions and curated networking bring together professionals, entrepreneurs, educators, creatives, investors and decision-makers, creating space for cross-sector learning.
Each city edition also incorporates moments focused on wellness and African cultural energy, reinforcing the idea that AI transformation is as much human as it is technological.
With limited capacity and an emphasis on applied learning, the AI Masterclass Summit positions itself as a focused opportunity for those seeking clarity, practical skills and momentum in a rapidly evolving landscape.
Participants will receive an ‘AI Ready’ certificate of attendance as part of their professional development record.
