Century City in Cape Town has emerged as South Africa’s fastest neighbourhood for mobile data, according to the latest research released by MyBroadband Insights, offering a snapshot of how mobile connectivity performed across the country at the end of 2025.
The findings are based on hundreds of thousands of real-world speed tests conducted by everyday users on mobile networks during the final quarter of the year, as per MyBroadband.
The study analysed 328 245 mobile data tests carried out using the MyBroadband Speed Test app between October and December 2025.
To ensure fairness, results were downsampled so that each user contributed equally to the final outcome, preventing frequent testers from skewing the data.
The Speed Test app measures download speed, upload speed, latency, and signal strength, while also allowing users to rate their experience on a five-star scale after each test.
To maintain neutrality, MyBroadband’s test servers are hosted in Teraco’s vendor-neutral data centres, as NAPAfrica further supports the platform by providing network operators at its peering points with free 10Gbps connectivity, ensuring that no operator is disadvantaged during testing.
Century City sets the pace
Results from the data show that Century City recorded an average mobile download speed of 175Mbps, placing it firmly at the top of the national rankings.
Users in the area also averaged 36Mbps upload speeds and a latency of 22ms, pointing to consistently strong performance across multiple indicators.
Irene in Centurion followed in second place, with average download speeds of 152Mbps, while Sandown in Johannesburg secured third position at 146Mbps.
Meanwhile, the top ten list highlights a strong representation from both Gauteng and the Western Cape provinces, with six neighbourhoods in Gauteng and four in Cape Town making the cut.
Other high-performing areas include Rosebank, Claremont, Woodmead, Highveld Techno Park, Pinelands, Halfway Gardens, and Lansdowne, each recording average download speeds well above 120Mbps.
An interesting pattern also emerged from the rankings, as several of the fastest neighbourhoods are either home to, or located close to, major mobile network operators and technology suppliers.
Woodmead, which ranked sixth, hosts the Huawei Office Park, while Telkom’s headquarters is based at Highveld Techno Park. Vodacom World, meanwhile, borders Halfway Gardens in Midrand.
This proximity may help explain the consistently strong performance seen in these areas.
The MyBroadband Speed Test app, which is free to download on Android and iOS, continues to play a key role in building this granular view of South Africa’s mobile internet landscape.
