A guide to three Cape Town based restaurants that offer recurring weekly food specials with menus stacked with a variety of cash-saving options, including; Hudsons Burger Joint chain, Jakes on the Common and Jakes in the Village and the Fisherman’s Cottage in Constantia Uitsig.
Whether you’re a working professional or a committed student, it’s often the case that you run out of time when it comes to weekly grocery shopping and dinner preparation. The problem is that ordering take-out regularly can get pretty pricey and too much fast food might leave you with an unhappy gut. Fear not! Here’s a list of three Cape Town-based restaurants that offer insane weekly food specials that are kind to both your stomach and your wallet!
Hudsons, The Burger Joint

Hudson’s is a chain of burger joints dotted all over Cape Town that really knows how to attract customers with its incredible weekly food and drink specials.

At the start of every week is Hudson’s Vegan Monday’s burger special, which offers a selection of four half-priced vegan burgers. For only R50 you could be salivating over the SAN FRAN burger, a lentil and mushroom patty topped with caramelised onions, smashed avo, vegan mozzarella, tomato and rocket.

If it’s a pizza you’re after, join Hudson’s for its Two’s-day pizza special when you can grab two for the price of one on selected pizzas. The Buffalo Chicken is a personal favorite of mine, writes Cape {town} Etc’s James Redman, topped with peri-peri pulled chicken, ranch dressing and fresh coriander.

Nacho Average Wednesday is exactly what it sounds like, an all-day cheese nacho special for only R70.

Hudson’s runs its popular happy hour special from Monday to Friday (4:30pm – 6:30pm) where you can choose from a long list of deliciously discounted drinks. See the happy hour menu here.

Jakes Cafe Restaurant & Bar
Whether you’re at Jakes on the Common or Jakes in the Village, both sites run the same weekly specials and offer the same sense of comfort and class.

Monday nights offer the lockdown flatbread special where you can order any Moroccan flatbread from the menu and get an original flatbread free. These flatbreads are truly delicious and unique to the Jakes franchise. My go-to is always the Moroccan lamb flatbread; 130gm’s lamb, chilli base, mozzarella, feta, aubergines, rocket, tzatziki and balsamic reduction.

Come Tuesday night and it’s time for the Jakes burger special where you can get two for the price of one on selected burgers. These big bad burgers come with a choice of fries or salad and are an absolute steal in this special. I was particularly satisfied by the ‘Oh My Burger’, a beef patty topped with a sauce of butter, creamed horseradish and dijon mustard with onion rings.

Jakes also runs a wacky Wednesday special where you can order two or more main meals and get two kids meals free, as well as the under 100 bucks lunch special, available Monday to Saturday (12pm – 4pm), where all lunches on the menu are under R100.

Fisherman’s Cottage
If it’s beer-battered fish and chips that you’re after, then you’ll want to join the Fisherman’s Cottage located at the Constantia Uitsig wine farm for its two for one fish and chips special.

The special is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays and offers a perfectly crispy beer battered piece of fish with a generous portion of hand-cut chips. The views of the wine farm and amazing wine on offer make this the perfect spot for a weekly dinner special.
