Not only is Cape Town blessed with beauty, but it’s also a city teeming with creativity. Wander the streets of Woodstock and Salt River and you’ll find many masterpieces along the walls of residential houses, corporate buildings, and public walls alike.
Venture into the city centre and you’ll be treated to unexpected artistic encounters. With so much to see, it’s easy to feel inspired to dip your own fingers into the creativity pot.
And while it’s true that not everyone is gifted at painting, the beautiful thing about art, no matter the medium, is that you don’t need to be good at it to enjoy it.
Here are three events and places in and around Cape Town to get your paint on and let those creative juices flow:
The Pottery
Located just behind the Camps Bay beachfront is a quaint little family-run business that offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of the iconic sunset strip into a world of Wonki Ware pottery, paints, and munchies to enrich your inner creative while satisfying any tummy-related cravings along the way.
Make your mark on any of their handmade pottery products by picking from their selection of plates, bowls, mugs, platters or trinket dishes. Take a seat, and decide between toasties, wraps, smoothie bowls and waffles while sipping on a smoothie, freshly pressed juice, milkshake, or a warm drink.
Let your imagination run wild as you create your design, dip your brushes and paint with all the colours of the wind.

- Location: 41 The Drive, Camps Bay
- Operating hours: Monday to Thursday 7.30 am to 5 pm | Friday and Saturday 7.30 am to 7 pm | Sundays and Public Holidays 7.30 am to 5 pm

ArtiChoc Creative Café
When you think of Stellenbosch, the first things that pop into your mind are its picturesque Winelands and award-winning wines. Now you can add chocolate and painting to the list, courtesy of this gem – ArtiChoc Creative Café.
This is an enchanting café that encapsulates the “magic” that comes with bringing loved ones together for the sake of memory-making, deliciousness, and pure creativity.
From painting with an array of mediums like functional glass, ceramic figurines, canvas or even t-shirts; to instructor-led workshops for those that prefer a little more guidance in the creative process. There’s a bunch of activities that’ll have you unleashing your inner artist in no time while indulging in a decadent chocolate and coffee/rooibos/wine pairing experience or snacking on some of their delicious meals.

- Location: R310 Baden Powell Drive, Lynedoch (the restaurant section of Stellenbosch Vineyards (first exit at the traffic circle on entering the premises)
- Operating times: Wednesday to Thursday 09 am to 5 pm | Friday to Sunday 09 am to 6 pm

Artjamming
Artjamming is anyone’s paintertainment dream: to be given cans of paint and told to let our imaginations go wild. What more could one ask for? Given an apron (because with access to paint, there’s bound to be plenty of jamming, and plenty of mess too) and a blank canvas but no set rules, it’s the perfect opportunity to cultivate one’s creative side while having a blast solo or with loved ones.
No prior drawing or painting skills are needed; the only objective is to have fun! But for those a little anxious to let loose, there are many professional helping hands around to show you the ropes.

- Location: Breakwater Blvd, Victoria & Alfred Waterfront
- Operating hours: Monday to Sunday 9 am to 6 pm
- Website: artjamming.co.za
