Take a look at these fun affordable and inexpensive things to do with the family and kids in Cape Town:
1. Oudekraal:
Nothing beats a lekker day out to braai with the whole family. Oudekraal is nestled between Llandudno and Camps Bay – the perfect little paradise to swim, braai or just chill and soak up the sun. It offers over 40 braai facilities, although most don’t have grids, so be sure to bring your own with you.

2. Toy Museum:
The Warrior Toy Museum in Simon’s Town, houses a permanent display of 4 000 model cars, 500 dolls and teddy bears, miniature dolls houses and rooms, two fully operating railroads, lead soldier displays, Meccano, ships and many other miscellaneous toys and models.

3. Acrobranch Stellenbosch:
Acrobranch is an outdoor treetop experience dedicated to offering children and adults alike a unique adventure as they move from tree to tree in lush, green forests. They offer a variety of activities from treetop adventures to zip lines and more. Try out a few thrilling activities that are under R100, including the Big Zip (R90) and the Acrotwigs Bungee (R60).

4. Intaka Island:
Intaka Island is a kid-friendly nature reserve with seven natural habitats, 120 bird species living in the park and 212 indigenous plants. The family can walk a 2 km nature trail or hop on a boat trip or take a guided tour – it’s a captivating nature experience.

5. Toeka Stoor:
Let the kids play like it’s the 90s. They can also see farm animals like goats and chickens roaming the grounds. If you love vintage trinkets, veteran motors farm-style food or “moerkoffie” this spot is a must-visit. Plus, it’s free to enter. There’s a coffee shop that serves South African favourites, such as bobotie pies, “ouma se kerrie vetkoek” and you can drink “moerkoffie” in a tin cup at Toeka Stoor.
