South Africans have been at the edge of their seats after the nail-biting match between Wales and the Sprinboks this past Saturday, which saw the former narrowly clinch victory. The Bokke are looking to redeem themselves this coming Saturday, 16 July, as all eyes turn to Cape Town and thousands of rugby fans decent on the city centre.
While the showdown between the two teams is sure to be epic, trying to navigate the busy streets of Cape Town this coming Saturday may not be as epic. If you find yourself calling the Northern Suburbs home or you’re just in search of that lekker rugby gees, here are a few bars that will be screening the game:
Speakeasy Saloon Durbanville
Speakeasy in Durbanville is the go-to watering hole in the Northern Suburbs and is a stone’s throw away from some incredible wine farms, perfect for those looking to [responsibly] indulge in a little wine tasting before the game. You’ll get plenty of that gees when choosing to watch the game, and with good food and incredible staff, you won’t be disappointed.
Location: Shop 10, Spiro’s Corner, Vrede Street, Durbanville
Barbaroozos Kuilsriver
If you find yourself on the other side of the Northern Suburbs and a little closer to Stellenbosch, pop into Barbaroozos in Kuilsriver for delicious good and a nail-biting game. There are several televisions for your viewing pleasure but your ears may need to contend with the rowdy crowd if you’re looking to listen to the finer details of the game. Patrons are also able to bring their shisha pipe along if they’re feeling a bit adventurous.
Location: Shop 11 De Kuilen Shopping Centre, Carinus Street, Kuils River
The Hollow Tree at Old Oak
The Hollow Tree is the perfect spot for foodies and rugby lovers. It offers a range of delicious pizzas, cheesecakes and juicy burgers and a few big screens with which to catch the came. However, be prepared, this spot gets quite busy on weekends (even without the game).
Location: 12 Old Oak Road, Bellville
Tipples Bar
If you drive a little further on and you’ll come across another Bellville hotspot – Tipples Bar. Located along High Street, it offers scrumptious food and drinks specials to pair with the game. The bar offers several television screens which will ensure you never miss a moment, so make sure you scream your lungs out!
Location: Shopping Village, 5 High St, Rosenpark, Cape Town
Buckley’s Pub & Pool Bar & Foosball
Why not burn some energy before the game by enjoying a game of pool or foosball. Buckley’s in Edward Street has been a favourite for residents of all ages, with good vibes and viewing pleasure. Keep in mind that load shedding may play a factor when viewing the game.
