Located between the breathtaking Twelve Apostles and the Atlantic Ocean, this beach has become a must-visit destination for anyone in Cape Town.
With its four beautiful coves, Clifton Beach offers a beautiful setting that could easily be mistaken for a postcard.
Each cove has its own vibe, from the lively crowds to quieter spots perfect for a sneaky nap. Clifton 4th Beach has enjoyed Blue Flag Status since 2004, thanks to its cleanliness and range of amenities.
Clifton 1st Beach is the most popular with surfers because it gets the best swells.
Expect to find plenty of sunbathers, swimmers and activities – from Show Up and Flow’s sunset yoga classes to volleyball sessions with Friends Who Volley.
For those who are feeling a bit more adventurous, the surrounding areas offer plenty of hiking trails with stunning views, although the ascent up the notorious Clifton Beach steps is probably all the work-out you’ll need.
But the effort is well worth it – nestled below the main road, the beach’s secluded spot shields it from strong winds, offering calm and perfect weather even when that south-easterly wind howls.
Also, there are not many public beaches in the world that spoil beachgoers with wildlife spectacles such as whale watching and sightings of wild cats.
Getting to Clifton Beach is a breeze, whether you’re driving, catching a cab, or attempting to navigate public transport. If you’re driving, parking can be a challenge during peak season, so plan accordingly and get there early.
So, as you gear up for your summer adventures, make sure Clifton Beach is on your list.
