One of the biggest literary festivals of the year, “Books on the Bay”, will be held this March in the serene and picturesque spot of Simon’s Town.
The festival will launch on 10 February at St Francis Anglican Church with readings by Nobel Laureate JM Coetzee, writer Antjie Krog and novelist José Agualusa.
The actual festival will span the weekend of 10 and 11 March and will be made up of 19 events, including readings, panel discussions, music and spoken word poetry.
The storytelling will take place across seven venues and give book-lovers an opportunity to explore literature in all its forms.

UWC professor David Attwell, lecturer Darryl David, and writer and publisher Karin Cronje teamed up with residents to organise the impressive event.
“We have an extraordinary, world-class and diverse line-up of writers who will read from and discuss their work,” says Attwell.
“The list of authors includes a Nobel Laureate, two Booker Prize winners, and finalists and winners of all the major literary prizes in South Africa.”
Darryl Earl David, an experienced book festival curator, says that “Books on the Bay” will undoubtedly be the festival of the year.
In connection with the space the event is held in, the literary festival will also offer guests historical information about and exploration into all that Simon’s Town holds.
In an initiative in line with the festival, libraries will be set up at schools in the greater Simon’s Town area, such as Ocean View and Masiphumelele.
Tickets for “Books on the Bay” are R60 and can be bought via Webtickets or Pick n Pay.
