Riding up the elevator to the upper floors of the modern luxury development of Latitude’s Aparthotel in Sea Point, I felt the thrilling sense that I was about to experience my former turf in a way I hadn’t before, writes Cape {town} Etc’s Ashleigh Nefdt.
It’s one thing to stay somewhere with epic views in mind, ideal locations at the centre of your booking endeavours or even the excitement of a stay in a brilliant architect’s imaginings. However, a stay that ties all of these together, like a gift perfumed with a personalised touch and subtle elegance, offers the kind of experience you won’t easily forget.
The two-bedroom unit took my breath away after I’d set just one foot through the door – largely attributed to the framed balcony picturing Sea Point. It captured the view of the bustling part of Regent Road where Mojo Market buzzes with life and meets the ocean, and so the scene was set for gorgeous sunset and sunrises that would envelop the entire space with warmth.
Enjoying the living space came effortlessly. Think sleek granite countertops of the fully fitted kitchen, an open plan flow of the lounge boasting plush velveteen couches, art bursting with life and a dining table equipt to host a feast. All oozed the added personalised touches that make the apartment feel your own. Of these, the Nespresso coffee machine was a personal favourite.
As for the two bedrooms, each was spoilt with a spacious layout where the soft white linen beds could reside comfortably. The added luxury of ensuite bathrooms made them all the more sigh-with-pleasure worthy.
However, the master bedroom’s added perk (it sat at the foot of the tantalising view) did help its case for the unofficial best room prize. Star scattered skies by night so close you could touch them, and by morning, a soft peach sunrise so close, you feel as though you could take a bite out of the sun.
Beyond the gorgeous setting of my temporary home, I was met with other surprises from Latitude.
The 9th floor’s cafe is a must-try for all guests as well as non-guests as it is open to both. Watch as your food sizzles and breathe in the aromas of freshly made feasts. The wagyu beef burgers compete with Cape Town’s finest burger spots, and no matter what you order, ensure that you leave enough room for the brownie and ice cream combination.
Beyond the restaurant’s delights, Latitude is ideal for business trips, meetings and co-working environments where digital nomads can pop in and enjoy a peaceful space to graft alongside some of the Cape’s most picturesque views.
Lions Head, Robben Island and of course the seascape are the gorgeous neighbours to this setting.
If your stay is focused on a little more pleasure than business, the wrap-around patio of the sky-high cafe provides the perfect rooftop setting for functions – equipt with a pool that reaches out to the sea.
For those who see a few extra thousand rand as small change, the penthouse encompasses designers’ dreams. Think New York flair intersecting with high-end modernism.
All in all, if you’re going to go big, go to Latitude Aparthotel, where your only complaint will be not having booked a longer stay.
