Brookdale Estate is set to commemorate Old Vine Day on 1 August with the release of the highly anticipated Brookdale Estate Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2021.
Following the success of its predecessor, the 2020 vintage, which received a Gold medal and an impressive score of 97/100 at the Trophy Wine Show in 2022, the 2021 vintage, crafted under the guidance of winemaker Kiara Scott Farmer, lives up to the high expectations once more.

The Old Vine Chenin Blanc grapes used for this wine were planted back in 1985, resulting in a wine that perfectly showcases the distinct terroir of Paarl and the region’s reputation for producing wines of remarkable complexity and balance.
The winemaker’s tasting notes reveal a delightful array of aromas, with hints of ginger spice and sourdough on the nose, complemented by a refreshing touch of pineapple and peach tea and rounded off with a subtle essence of vanilla pod.
The wine’s texture is rich, with weighty stone fruit notes harmonising with vibrant tropical nuances. The midpalate offers a perfect balance of apricot tanginess and creamy, salted lees. Throughout, a fine mineral acidity intertwines with subtle spice, providing an exquisite journey for the palate, culminating in flavours of quince, peaches and poached pears that linger long and resonate with generous fruitfulness.

The Brookdale Estate Old Vine Chenin Blanc has earned a reputation that rivals even the classic white wines of Burgundy. Its precise equilibrium, nuanced balance and bold, impactful flavour profile make it a wine of exceptional character, especially when paired with food.
As a testament to its commitment to heritage vines, Brookdale Estate is a proud member of South Africa’s Old Vine Project, a collective of certified heritage vineyards. Launched in 2016, this regulatory authority certifies and promotes vineyards that are at least 35 years old in South Africa, and wines from these vineyards can be identified by the heritage seal on their bottles.
To mark Old Vine Day on 1 August 2023, the Tasting Room at Brookdale Estate will be offering complimentary tastings of the 2019 Brookdale Old Vine Chenin Blanc to all guests.
Additionally, a special edition 375-ml bottle of this vintage will be available for purchase at R190 per bottle, allowing wine enthusiasts to savour the exceptional qualities of this remarkable wine.
