Brookdale Estate, located just outside of Paarl, has introduced a new wine pairing to be enjoyed in its elegant Tasting Room.
Focusing on Brookdale’s range of lifestyle wines, the new ‘Mason Road Sip & Dip’ tasting features the four wines in the current Mason Road range, each thoughtfully paired with a freshly made pâté and toasted baguette.

Served with traditional hummus, the pairing begins with a Mason Road Chenin Blanc 2021, which opens with a symphony of honeysuckle and pear drop aromas and evolves into an electric medley of tropical delights reminiscent of an island storm. Think pineapple, mango, and hints of lime, all harmoniously complemented by a flinty, rain-like freshness.
Upon sipping, a delightful bloom of honeycomb precedes a luscious blend of fleshy pear and an abundance of tropical fruits, all balanced by refreshing acidity.

Next in line is the Mason Road Serendipity Rosé 2022, a Provence-style rosé that has become a favourite among South African wine enthusiasts. Perfectly paired with an Olive Tapenade, this pale salmon pink wine is crafted from a blend of Syrah, Grenache Noir, and Cinsault and delights with fragrant notes of hibiscus, fynbos-spice and wild strawberries on the nose.
The palate presents an abundance of red fruits, with a refreshing watermelon zest lifting the midpalate. A perfect balance is struck by the lemony acidity, with the beautiful fruit flavours elegantly complemented by the influence of old oak ageing.

Moving on to the reds, the ever-popular 2022 Mason Road Syrah awaits with dried violet and kirsch scents, ripe plums, black olives and red cherries on the nose. This rich wine is matched with a mushroom and sunflower seed pâté, adding a delightful savoury element. On the palate, fresh berry fruit takes the spotlight, buoyed by a plummy acidity that imparts a pleasing structure.
The tannins gracefully layer in a featherweight manner, enhancing the bright red fruit profile, while the finish concludes with a gentle dusting of black pepper spice – a well-balanced and refreshing conclusion.

Lastly, trailblazing winemaker Kiara Scott Farmer proudly presents the newly launched Mason Road GSM 2022 – a daring blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Petit Syrah. This medium-bodied red blend boasts a luscious complexity of fruit, underscored by notes of liquorice root, fennel seed and ground spice, all leading to a captivating nose with blackberry and bramble leaf nuances.

Unfolding on the palate is a delightful array of red and black berries, culminating in a juicy pomegranate finish with a subtle hint of cacao. The perfect companion to this wine is chef Gary Coetzee’s Baba Ghanoush, which adds an exquisite touch to the overall tasting experience.
