When I think of brunch, it always seems to conjure images of Breakfast at Tiffany’s and episodes of Sex and the City.
This coupled with the fact that I love a good breakfast and waking up a little later than most Capetonians on a weekend, brunch is probably my favourite thing to do when the clock strikes: “weekend,” writes Cape {town} Etc’s Lynn Cupido.
From bagels on Harrington Street to french toast drenched in Nutella on Pepper Street, there’s a brunch spot for everyone in Cape Town.
But while brunch lovers may have plenty to choose from, there’s nothing more iconic than having a welcoming bubbly in hand as you stuff your face with an array of delicious pastries, all while enjoying some gorgeous views of the Mother City.
Visiting the Silo Hotel’s renowned Granary Café has been on my foodie bucket list for quite a bit and along with their high tea option, they also have a brunch option for those looking for more than eggs and bacon.

The Silo needs no introduction as images of the hotel’s famous bathroom has probably graced your Instagram feed once or twice. It’s a style icon, with its architecture a towering figure over the V&A Waterfront and its standard of luxury living being the talk of the town.
If you’re hungry and looking to enjoy a lazy Sunday brunch, the hotel’s Granary Café offers the perfect start to the week. You’ll need to fork out R350, but in my opinion, it was worth it for the food and overall experience.
You’re immediately welcomed with a glass of bubbly as you sit back and listen to the groovy tunes of an entertainer. Who doesn’t enjoy a little jazz with their meal? An étagère of savoury snacks is served, which includes croissants, a selection of cold meats, slivers of salmon and the best cinnamon roll I’ve tasted.

Patrons have the option to choose from their a lá carte menu which features a range of options, including eggs benedict and a spicy salmon bulgogi dish. The dining experience is topped off with dessert, which is not set and changes each Sunday.
If you’re looking to deviate from the menu, you’re more than welcome to add a few more items, but it will cost you extra.
The verdict? It’s definitely the perfect way to wash the Monday Blues away.
