Bertus Basson has added a bold new gem to his ever-growing restaurant portfolio with the opening of Ongetem on Friday, 30 May.
Meaning ‘untamed’ in Afrikaans, the name perfectly captures the spirit of the inner-city eatery, located in Gardens just off Kloof Street.
At Ongetem, diners can expect a raw, fearless, and unapologetically bold culinary experience.

It’s no-nonsense seasonal cooking, it is a little wild, a bit untamed…It’s blerrie lekker. – Bertus Basson
The restaurant boasts modern design with funky inner-city accents (look out for the stunning Harley-Davidson).
Expect nostalgic nods to Cape Town’s food roots with open-fire cooking, modern twists on South African culinary traditions, and, of course, craft cocktails served alongside foot-stomping beats.
