The well-loved Sunday hotspot, Mynt Cafe, recently announced it will be closing its doors on the iconic sunset strip of Camps Bay at the end of January to make way for a new 100-room hotel.
Theo Pearson, the owner of Destiny and founder of Mynt Cafe, took to the cafe’s social media pages to break the news.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I have to announce the closing of Mynt Cafe. After nine amazing years, Mynt Cafe will be closing its doors on January 29th to make way for a new 100-room hotel. The demolishing of our building and the Place on the Bay hotel next door will begin in February,” began the post.
Pearson says it’s always been a childhood dream to open a restaurant in Camps Bay, one of Cape Town’s favourite beachside roads, and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to live out his dream for the past nine years.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our amazing customers for their unbelievable loyalty during Mynt’s phenomenal run in Camps Bay,” continued the post.
“I would also like to take this time to thank my most amazing staff for their dedication and loyalty to Mynt Cafe. Your service to Mynt Cafe and its customers has been impeccable. There are no words to thank you enough for your service over the years. Every single one of you will be missed after the end of January. Not seeing your faces every day will be a challenge for me.”
It may be the end of sipping two-for-one sundowners and diving into three-for-two sushi as you soak in the bustling vibes of Camps Bay’s sunset strip but Pearson promises it’s not the end of Mynt Cafe.
“This is not goodbye, this is ‘see you soon’. Mynt Café will be back, bigger and better than ever.”
