Cape Town musical group Beatenberg released their third album ‘The Great Fire of Beatenberg’, their first album in five years, via record label and management company, Leafy Outlook, on Friday, 5 April.
‘The Great Fire of Beatenberg’ follows upon the group’s previous release ‘On the way to Beatenberg’, a ‘post-pandemic EP’ that brought the band together, since they took a hiatus in 2018, reforming in 2023.

Beatenberg consists of members Matthew Field (vocals and guitar), Robin Brink (drums), and Ross Dorkin (bass).
Since their debut album ‘The Hanging Gardens of Beatenberg’ was released in 2014, Beatenberg broke radio chart records and won numerous awards, which led to worldwide touring, performing on ‘Later with Jools Holland’ and ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’.
This in turn led the group to signing a deal with Island Records UK with whom they released their second album, 2018’s ’12 Views of Beatenberg’.
The group sold out their first headline tour of Europe and the US, which culminated in a performance at SXSW in March 2023, as the group has been enjoying success for ‘the best part of a decade’.
‘The Great Fire of Beatenberg’ was recorded within three weeks in Cape Town and Johannesburg with UK producer Tom Stafford at Milestone Studios, Sunset Recording Studios and Jazzworx, as Field had begun ‘many of the songs in various home studio setups’.
Back in London, Field joined forces with Dorkin, and together as producers they did extra recording and production for the album, with mixing being done by Nathan Boddy.
‘The Great Fire of Beatenberg’ consists of 13 songs, namely:
- Branches On A Tree
- Eau de Toilette
- Gold Mine
- Worth More
- When I Fall Asleep
- Chorus of May
- Wheelbarrow
- Bath Towels
- I’ll Be There
