Cape Town City Ballet, the well-renowned ballet company , starts off their Summer programme with a favourite of the festive season: The Nutcracker.
The show is produced by Veronica Paeper and is intended for the whole family to watch and enjoy. It will be running from the 7 to 23 December at the Artscape in the Opera House.
The Nutcracker is a story set on Christmas Eve in which the plot unfolds in the context of a celebratory gathering of family and friends.
The children in the story receive their Christmas gifts, and young Clara is enchanted by her unusual nutcracker doll. She falls asleep holding the doll and dreams of her saving the doll’s life. The plot revolves around the magic of dreams, and the sweet surprises one can think up.

The Cape Town City Ballet dancers will be joined by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra at select performances playing Tchaikovsky’s enchanting music, as well as forty carefully selected children performing alongside the company.
Acclaimed designer Wilhelm Disbergen is responsible for the production’s lighting design, with the talented Peter Cazalet and Michael Mitchell heading up set and costume design.
The show’s choreography is by Pamela Chrimes and David Poole.
The show on Friday 23 December at 3pm is a Children’s Parade. Children are invited to take pictures with the characters on stage and receive a sweet treat.
