Following a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event runs from 22 to 25 March and is likely to see hoards of fashionistas flocking to the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
Owner and operator of CTFW, Africa Fashion International (AFI), celebrates 15 years of Africa’s creative trendsetters, anchoring efforts on breaking barriers and bridging cultural and economic gaps for the continent.
The celebration of Africa’s top creative talents shows off an interactive experience, offering a week of opportunities for designers and other stakeholders to network and sell their products to buyers.
By blending sustainably produced fashion, art, music, design, tech and culture, this year’s AFI event is emphasising its commitment to a sustainable future.
“Events are steadily returning in full force after the devastating impact the pandemic had on the industry,” said mayco member JP Smith. “We are thrilled to welcome back Cape Town Fashion Week to the Mother City.”
“We believe the fashion industry plays a significant role in driving economic growth and creating trade opportunities for small businesses and jobs within the manufacturing sector.” “The 2018 Cape Town Fashion week led to the creation of close to 480 temporary jobs linked to hosting the event alone.”
“It makes me extremely proud that Cape Town is recognised as an important global fashion city alongside the likes of New York, Paris, and Milan because we provide an enabling environment to nurture and showcase Africa’s sustainability and creativity.”
Along with the world-class fashion show, AFI has geared up Cape Town Fashion Week to mesmerise guests with a fashion, retail, and art and design expo.
In addition, there will be an AFI masterclass that dives into topics such as ethics, diversity, sustainability and global citizenship to inform guests about building a conscious and inclusive fashion landscape.
Some of South Africa’s best music talents will also hit centre stage alongside the showcasing designers. DJ Zinhle, Young Stunna, and dynamic duo, DJ Maphorisa and Kabza de Small, otherwise known as the Scorpion Kings, are set to blow audiences away with performances that celebrate fashion and Pan-Africanism.
