This Saturday, those who responded to the drive shared by True Colors Tattoo Studio and secured a booking will be getting a semicolon tattoo. The symbol may translate various messages to individuals but overall it is the solidarity toward all who have been affected by suicide that stands out.
Local activist, Vanessa Clarke, from Suicide Prevention Day (SPD) Cape Town reached out to the owner of the studio Francois Coertzen to form a collaboration and raise suicide awareness in this way.
“The day is aimed at starting the conversation and breaking the stigma around mental health. The inspiration to join this event was the fact that so many people suffer in silence and we aim to provide a means where people can remember loved ones or carry on their journey,” said Dominique Anderson, the studio manager.
Capetonians clearly had their heartstrings pulled to the core because True Colours Tattoo Studio has been booked out for World Suicide Prevention Day. The studio’s two skilful experts Coertzen and Ethan Kruger will be working back-to-back.

SPD Cape Town will also be holding an open day in Pioneer Street, Bellville. Go through and try rock climbing, dance classes, poetry and chainmail workshops, painting workshops, MMA classes and yoga classes. There will also be live music, food vendors and much more.
