Cape Town’s latest obsession is sitting pretty in pink, offering treats you simply can’t get at most stores as well as a slice of Asia through food.
A series of Asia-inspired twinklings have been making waves in Cape Town recently. We’ve fallen in love with Cafe Chiffon and Susu Bubble Tea who have De Waterkant busy with eager visitors.
Following suit, the popular online-grocery store A-Mart has joined our list of new obsessions after setting down its roots in the Mother City just under two weeks ago.
If you haven’t heard of A-Mart before, get ready to switch up your shopping list. A-Mart is a 100% authentic Asian grocery store based in Cape Town with a desire to share the best of Asian culture in South Africa.
Snippets of the store have populated the internet after the launch on 2 July, leading shoppers to a little road situated near Bree Street and away from the usual grocery-shopping experiences that are far from the adorable aesthetic.

Situated on Orphan Street at the top of a blushing pink staircase, the store stands like a cave filled with snack fortunes, all dressed in Wednesday’s favourite colour.

Beyond the aesthetics, A-Mart is the perfect pick for those who like to pack their pantries with unique cravings. Think imported candies, anime-inspired items like drinks inspired by Sailor Moon and Dragan Ball Z, Mochi collections, cup bowls and ramen and a selection of snacks and treats. Need ingredients for an Asian-inspired meal? You’ll get the best of the essentials for that dish you’ve always wanted to try. Other surprises include K-Beauty products (Korean Beauty).

Now if you like taking your grocery list international, there are a few other spots in the Mother City that should also go on your shopping list.
Looking for a taste of Italy? Rialto’s store in Montague Gardens stocks some of the best authentic Italian pastas and cheeses.
Another favourite is the German Grocer/ Frandale Imports which stand in Gardens and Milnerton. German magazines, beers, and tastes from around the world are all on the cards for a visit to these picks. Don’t worry, we have even more recommendations.
